Vilains that need to save the world against a terrorist attack. That sums up why these bad guys are put together. But the storytelling that brings all these guys together so quickly is lazy to the point of professional negligence.
When you combine all these villains:
– Deadshot (Will Smith)
– Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie)
– Enchantress (Cara Delevigne)
– Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney)
– Katana (Karen Fukuhara)
– Killer Croc (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje)
– Slipknot (Adam Beach)
you would assume that the action in this movie would be wild, loud and very visual but think again. The beginning of the movie is the best part, while the team is assembled and Deadshot and Harley Quinn have the most screentime. Even The Joker (Jared Leto) comes a long, but I could not understand why he was in this movie. He did not add anything to the movie, just an addition to the Harley Quinn background story, nothing else. When the team is together they have to face an alien liveforce who is messing up the city. But it is totally unclear why this badguy is doing this. In the end I found myself bored on the couch watching this movie and really wishing it would end.
Problem I have with the DC movies from the past years (Man of Steel, Batman Vs Superman and now this one) is the fact that they use an extreme ammount of CGI to create a visual aspect which I do not like. Too many lightning bolts, flashes, rain showers and dark images to show a badguy. No I am not a Marvel fanboy, I have never read any comic book from Marvel or DC, but Marvel has a human touch in their movies, which I cannot find in the DC movies. Sure Deadshot has a little background story with his daughter to show an emotional side, but it is rushed and totally forgotten in the end.
I really hoped I would enjoyed this movie, sorry I did not. Margot Robbie steals the show as Harley Quinn and I even liked Captain Boomerang and his pink unicorns. Let’s hope DC will be better with their Justice League adaptation.
